Rose's Retirement

October 2016

Rose's Retirement

Rose has decided it is time to put her feet up and retire after 5 years at Westchester.

At the end of August just before Rose went on holiday, all of the staff and children invited her for a surprise afternoon tea and presented Rose with a lovely posh coffee making machine, which she had said she wanted for her new retirement flat. Rose was thrilled. Paula our new admin started on Monday 3rd October 2016 and is learning fast!

Harvest Boxes Appeal

October 2016

Harvest Boxes Appeal

Once again we took part in the Harvest Boxes for the Elderly Appeal.

June from Farnham Assist came along to Westchester House on Friday 7th October in the afternoon, to collect our 62 small shoe size boxes which were filled with lots of goodies and decorated beautifully. We explained to the older children how these will be given out to the elderly who have been invited along for Harvest Dinner on Sunday 9th October at Farnham Assist, a lot of whom live alone.

The feedback and lovely note cards we received last year from several of the elderly ladies and gentlemen who received these food parcels, showed how truly grateful they were and so we have decided to make this an annual event.

Thank you to all parents and carers that kindly donated items for the food parcels and any shoe boxes which the children got very creative with! We are very proud to be able to support this appeal and the children love being able to help make a difference!

Marvellous Outdoor Mud Kitchen
at Westchester House Nursery

March 2016

Marvellous Outdoor Mud Kitchen at Westchester House Nursery

We are delighted to of had a mud kitchen fitted at Westchester House Nursery School.

8 Benefits of Playing in the MUD! Open ended play: stimulation of many senses while engaged in play; eye-hand coordination; cause and effect; pretending real life play; imagination and creativity; gross motor skills; self-care knowledge.

Mud kitchens and mud stations are child led activities that become a somewhat therapeutic, relaxing event where the child can connect to the outdoors with the freedom to let their mind wander wherever it wishes to. Open ended mud play leads to creativity as well as enhancing motor skills; as the children handle materials and work around the mud station, carrying shovels of mud or balancing full pots of water to lift and pour, stir and scoop. Sensory stimulation is a necessary part of brain development and something that is often overlooked in free play; this is how child learns, through experimentation and observation.
